3rd Sub-Tropical Independent Film Festival, Taipei

Taiwan’s lovers of imaginative film who have been eagerly anticipating the next edition of the Sub-Tropical Independent Film Festival need wait only a few days more. The third festival is nearly here: 2025 May 10 Saturday . National Taiwan Normal University (NTNU) provides the venue. Once again, planners Barry Hall and Li-Ting Huang have arranged the short films into three programs, with this year’s screenings scheduled at 14:00, 16:00, and 18:50. As the acronym might imply, STIFF doesn’t mind a few long shadows and a bit of pungency in its off-road explorations of cinematic power. As festival planners describe it, ‘We’re looking for the offbeat, the weird, the experimental, the eccentric, the startling, the uncanny, the inexplicable. ‘Melodia’ wins Arthouse Director award in Bath

‘Melodia’ in Montréal

We’re delighted to announce that Melodia: a short film in rondo form is an official selection of the 38th Fort Lauderdale International Film Festival. The Taiwan film will be screened on November 8 Wednesday 13:30 at the Gateway Cinema as part of a full program entitled East .  FLIFF, slated to run from November 3rd through 12th, screens over 200 films in Fort Lauderdale, Saint Augustine and the Bahamas. Venues include the storied Gateway Cinema, the historic Savor Cinema, and the Cinema Paradiso on Hollywood Beach. Hard Rock Live hosts Opening Night. Melodia , filmed entirely in Taiwan, stars Yi-An Chen with Aaron Don Don, Dora Lo, Anna Tian, Manav Mehta, Hank Yu, and Jia Lin Chen. Laticia Fan is director of photography. Chung Hua Weng performs music by Ludwig van Beethoven. The film was written and directed by A T Beaune.

‘Shoe Story’ in Chicago Arthouse Filmfest

 Oh, my. It’s time to get our shoes bronzed! Thanks to film lovers in Chicago for honouring Shoe Story in this year’s Blow-Up International Arthouse Filmfest slated for January. The new minimalist comedy from Taiwan starring Dora Lo, James C H Lo and Wen-Chieh Chi as a trio of bohemian flatmates has been named a semi-finalist in the competitive category of International Narrative Short.  From the Beautiful Isle, greetings and appreciation to our friends in the Windy City.
